****************************************************************************** BSW Electronic Mail 11-Sep-2014 11:43:09 CET Message Number 0327 ****************************************************************************** Author: Rolf Dach Subject: Open position at AIUB Dear Colleagues, The group Satellite Geodesy of the Astronomical Institute of the University of Bern (AIUB) offers a *Ph.D. Position* The focus of the research activities will be in the field of *Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) Data Analysis* Current activities at AIUB in this field cover a wide range from reference frame establishment using data of the LAGEOS and Etalon satellites to the analysis of observations to low geodetic SLR satellites to, e.g., determine the low-degree terms of the Earth's gravity field. In the frame of this project a fully combined analysis of measurements from SLR and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) shall be performed by the successful candidate using satellite co-locations. The combination of the SLR tracking network with the GNSS station network shall thereby not only indirectly be achieved via SLR measurements to the LAGEOS and Etalon satellites, but also directly via SLR measurements to the fully tracked GNSS (GLONASS) constellation. Real data, e.g., collected in the frame of the recently launched Pilot Campaign for SLR Tracking of GNSS, and simulated data based on realistic observation scenarios shall be used. The analysis of SLR measurements at AIUB is carried out with the Bernese GNSS Software package that is also used for the GNSS-related activities in the group. The SLR-related activities are an integrated part of the research activities of the satellite geodesy group. For the anticipated simulation studies, the programs for GNSS data simulations shall be extended by the successful candidate with SLR-related capabilities, e.g., allowing it to introduce realistic weather conditions by taking into account temporal and spatial correlations derived from observed weather data.
