****************************************************************************** BSW Electronic Mail 15-Jun-1999 19:35:02 CET Message Number 0066 ****************************************************************************** Author: Martin Bourassa Subject: Re: Bernese on NT Mark and Andreas (and other users), I also have some remarks regarding the installation of Bernese 4.0 under Windows NT 4. All I did is modify the "config.nt" file (usually in \winnt\system32) by adding the following line: FILES=100 The other added lines as stated in the previous message are extras and are not used by the OS (see the bottom part of this message). After that, when you want to run Bernese, all you have to do is open a shell window (run "cmd.exe") and use the two batch files provided with the software to load the environment and start the program. I also included other remarks in a previous message (no 41). In the format file (\BERN40\LIB\INCLIB40\FOR), we use the following line to view the selection lists: FFFFFFFFFFFF SSSSSSSSS MM DD YY HH XX We also use Lahey LF90 v4.5 and it works fine. Place these commands in the CONFIG.NT file in the \systemroot\SYSTEM32 directory or the Config file specified by an application's PIF . These commands affect only the MS-DOS subsystem. Many of them, such as buffers and break, are ignored because the MS-DOS subsystem works without them. They are accepted for compatibility only. Files ----- Sets the number of files that the MS-DOS subsystem can access at one time. files=x Parameter x Specifies the number of files that the MS-DOS subsystem can access at one time. Valid values for x are in the range 8 through 255. The default value is 8. Files--Example To specify that the MS-DOS subsystem can access up to 20 files at one time, add the following line to your CONFIG.NT file: files=20 Files--Note Although the default setting for the x parameter is 8, some programs require a larger value. A typical setting is 20. Buffers ------- Windows NT and the MS-DOS subsystem do not use this command. It is accepted only for compatibility with files from MS-DOS. Lastdrive --------- Windows NT and the MS-DOS subsystem do not take action for this command. It is accepted only for compatibility with MS-DOS. Drives are always set to the maximum (Z).
