From mscharber at josh.ucsd.edu Thu Aug 8 11:37:29 2002 From: mscharber at josh.ucsd.edu (Michael Scharber) Date: Thu, 8 Aug 2002 11:37:29 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [IGSMAIL-4033]: PIN2 Alert from SOPAC Message-ID: ****************************************************************************** IGS Electronic Mail 08 Aug 11:37:30 PDT 2002 Message Number 4033 ****************************************************************************** Author: SOPAC To users of PIN2 GPS data, SOPAC must regretfully inform you that data acquired (anywhere) for the permanent GPS site PIN2 (Pinyon 2), prior to August 2, 2002, for the period of data from day 128 through day 213 of 2002.....should not be used! Due to an oversight in the collection and archiving process affecting PIN1 and PIN2 (since they share telemetry through a single telephone line) PIN2 data for the period specified above is simply a COPY of PIN1 for the same day....with slightly different RINEX header information. Steps have been taken to clean up this problem, repost 9 days of back-collected data from the PIN2 receiver for days 128 through 136, and prevent similar events from happening in the future. For more information, please refer to a SOPAC memo describing in detail what happened and what is being done about it: http://sopac.ucsd.edu/other/pinyon_foulup.txt Bottom line(s): a. DO NOT use any data related to PIN2 from the time period of 2002-137 through 2002-213! It is simply a copy of data for PIN1! Data for PIN2 during this period was irretrievably lost due to receiver memory exhaustion. If you are an archive which has data for PIN2 for this period, please make every attempt to remove it as soon as possible. b. DO NOT use data for PIN1 for 2002-127! It is a copy of data for PIN2! As an artifact of SOPAC's local downloading upgrade during this period, on the first day of the upgrade PIN1 was affected by this problem. Subsequent days afterward PIN2 was affected. c. If you have data for PIN2 for any of the days 128 through 136 of 2002 please recollect them from SOPAC as soon as possible. SOPAC wishes to extend every possible apology for this unfortunate event and the troubles it may have caused unwilling and unknowing users of PIN2 data, as well as those archives which may serve PIN2 data. Please direct any questions you have on this topic to: archive at sopac.ucsd.edu Sincerest apologies, SOPAC
